–
“If you jump I jump.”
“You’re joking.”
“You know I’m not.”
–
We were young and ignorant.
All knowing while knowing nothing.
Invincible yet sensible.
Mature and always immature.
–
In the trials and tribulations of high school suburban life,
Our souls fought to find each other,
To resonate with one another,
And find home in the other.
–
I found us to be a living juxtaposition
A reflection of the other, always the same and constantly opposite.
Our eyes drawn the same yet colored differently,
And our bodies molded similarly yet shaded diversely.
–
Twin flames, entwined,
Lit by the same match,
Ignited with the same spark,
Burned to the same ember.
–
“If we die? What then?”
“Then we had the coolest deåth ever. Don’t you wanna die with me?”
“You’re insane, but fine, I’ll jump. Only if we do it together.”
–
Our hearts yearn for the other,
Now that our string is stretched thin,
By exactly one thousand five hundred and three miles,
That take twenty-two hours and nine minutes to travel.
–
This distance wasn’t written in the universe
Making the stars not align in the same way.
But our young souls have nothing but time,
And temporary distance is never forever.
–
“CE LA VIEEE!”
“CE LA VIE? YOU’RE FUCKING RIDICULOUS!”
** Shout out to the amazing photographer that photographed the featured image, May Pham, Quinn Pasmantier, a third year student at Northeastern University. I took inspiration to write this poem from her picture. Much love for her and tons of admiration for her talent!
